Hey there readers,

I'm about to talk about my new job in Portugal but I realised I never reviewed my last, which was actually my first ever job in Portugal. I was hire in August 26th, by Starfoods who is a company that owns 4 restaurant brands. The one they placed me in, was the fast food restaurant called Selfish, were they serve fish based menus, like salmon, tuna, hake, cod fish... grilled, hamburger, timbal, etc,... I'm not a fan of fish but I must admit it's delicious.

The job was located in CascaisShopping in the restoration area. This is was really far away from my grandparents house, I had to catch a train and a bus to get there. Although the distance was long, it was quite cheap for just a month.

I was very excited to start work as I never worked in a take away place before and I loved learning new things.

Everyone was really helpful, letting me know what I had to do, although my job role was being at the till getting peoples orders, I also helped in the kitchen by cutting vegetables and fruit and washing dishes. I mean A LOT of dishes.

My colleagues constantly thought that any moment I was going to quit, which really annoyed me most of the time, because they saw me as someone that comes from England and has everything I desire; Like I never worked for anything in my life! I earned this gap year! For me a job, it's a job.

However what I later on noticed is that, people that were looking for jobs, they would just fancy something easy and more pay. For me, common sense would be, work whatever job you can until you find a better one, because that way you still earning, no matter how much. I was actually really surprised on how much I was getting payed, which was less than 3€ an hour ! I couldn't believe it because people that work there, they are all hard working people and deserve so much more, and working full days and only 1 day off! Some people, barely! I couldn't complain to be fair, I did a lot of hours and at the end of the month, my pay check was so worth it, over 700€.

Anyway the management was brilliant, and besides giving you discount, you would also get free launch or dinner, and that was my favourite part, as well as being able to swap dinner with other restaurants, so that way you can eat something different each time 😋.

I was able to speak English and Spanish with some costumers which was helpful in their favour, I also served a deaf costumer which inspired me to learn sign language. Funny enough one of the tv shows I watched during the Summer was Switched at Birth, in case you haven't seen it, the show is about 2 baby girls that, well, were switched at birth and one of the girls got ill which then caused her to be deaf, the other girl she grew up in a wealthy family. It's really interesting, but I'm annoyed the fact they cancelled season 6.

I only stayed at Selfish for a month as I had to go back to England for 2 weeks to get my braces off and wait for my retainer to be made. Plus, once I arrived to Portugal, the plan is to find something new, and closer to home. Which I did.

Not in Lisbon in my grandmothers house but my mums house in Aveiro and I can just walk there. Overall working at selfish was quite the experience and the skills I gain are definitely helping me in my new job.

Talking about my new job is at a restaurant called Galo e Touro, which translating to English is Cock and bull, which sounds very weird. 😂 I am loving it so far and everyone is very kind and helpful, plus I wear this apron on my waist that makes me feel like Rachel from friends. So far I'm working nights and weekends. At the weekends is the busiest, so wish me luck, so I won't break anything. 😂

Have a lovely day wonderful people. 😘
